Mixed Media canvas for Marion Smith Designs

Hi there friends!

Today I'm up on the Marion Smith Designs blog today with a mixed media canvas I created using MSD stamps, Garment District papers and also Junque and Gems embellishments.

Here's the canvas:

My background was created with a lovely blend of 13arts chalk mist, Inklingz and Silk acrylics. And I've combined two different small stamp modules from the Curios Stamp set and used them as a repeating motif in my background.

And some close-ups:

A fussy-cut doll from Mad Tea Party

Junque and Gems goodies. I've also dabbed some liquid pearls to accent my stamped images.

A lovely flower from Curios stamp set which is the centre piece of the canvas. Had so much fun layering the colors!

And here's the start to finish video of how I put this canvas together:

And that's all I have for today, thanks for dropping by!

I'll Always Remember with 13arts

Hi everyone, how has your week been?

For those in Singapore, hope you've enjoyed the F1 Grand Prix night race. My eldest and I got tickets from the husband as usual to watch the race and he definitely enjoyed much more this year as they've tuned down the engine volume.

September has always been a bittersweet month for me. Sweet because the husband and me got married in this month, bitter because this is also the month where my little baby of 9 years died of a stomach infection and left us. He's a very sweet Golden Retriever with the most amazing temperament and he passed on just a couple of months after my eldest was born. So I'm dedicating today's post to him.

I've used 13arts' Timeless collection here, as well as Ayeeda Pearl and Chalk mists to add color onto the project. Featured also are some chipboards from Blue Fern Studios (Beaded Strings and Working Parts) and some Prima flowers.

Some details:

Flowers altered with Ayeeda Pearl Mist in Brown, and using "Perfect Moment" as my background
paper. Tucked under the flowers is a piece of the Beaded String chipboard which I've cut into two and placed in around the page. This was colored with Pearl Mist in Brown.

The other part of my floral cluster.

Stickers and circles which I punched out from "Today, Tomorrow, Always". Layered under the photo is the Working Parts chipboard from Blue Fern Studios which I've heat embossed.

Stenciled with some black paste using the Mask - Flying Shapes and some random stamping in the background.

And lastly a sticker which I've used as part of my title.

That's all I have to share today. Thanks for dropping by!

that two-flower layout.....

Hello friends, I hope you missed me while I was away!

It has been a busy time with lots of things happening, so much so that I didn't realise I had a whole list of to-do stuff to check off! But first, I want to share with you a layout I created for Made With Love Singapore.

So I went to the store to pick up my DT pack and saw that I had stuff that I don't usually use. But after starring at them for a while, I realised I had an awesome challenge on hand - use stuff that I don't usually use! So this is what I came up with:

This was so much fun to create. I used some soft matte gel instead of the usual texture paste and applied it over a Prima stencil. Next was some misting over another stencil with Tattered Angels glimmer mists. Then the next layer was some Art Anthology Sorbet dimensional paint over another stencil (you can see where my fetish is now). This is a fairly simple way to build up layers on your background - using different stencils with different mediums, one on top of another. As the Art Anthology paints are water-based, I wet my paintbrush and bled some of the stenciled designs onto my white cardstock. If you want to add even more layers, you can follow on with different stamp designs in different colours.

Some closeups:

I painted a wooden doily with AA sorbet paint and added some Distress Glitter along the edges. The arrow is from Pink Paislee's mistables and has resist patterns on it. For my photo mat, I layered different cut outs from a sheet of sentiments from My Mind's Eye "Jubilee" collection.

A fun way to add interest to your page is to use stamping. Instead of stamping my date only once, I repeated the stamping until the ink ran out. If you noticed, I also use staples to secure my photo mat layers together. Interested to know what those three dots ah? Make a guess, it's a crafting essential which I've re-purposed!

And a departure from my usual flowery style, I used only two flowers here! So I started with some plain white petals and used the same TA mists I used for my background to color them. What I did was a color bleeding technique and I have a video here to show you how I did it. For the other purple rose, it was as simple as adding glitter to the edges. To make my page more filled out, I stamped some words around the border of my white cardstock.

Supplies (available from Made With Love):

Bazzil cardstock (white)
My Mind's Eye Jubilee collection papers
Maya Road bingo buttons
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists (Sunflower Sisters, Aquamarine)
Art Anthology Dimensional Paints (Mayan Gold, Red Velvet)
Prima Stencils
Wood doilies and icons
Pink Paislee Mistable Resist Chipboard Arrows

So that's all I have for now. Thanks for dropping by, and I'll see you soon!

Hello friends!

Today I'm up on the 13arts blog with a little altered project to share with you.
This is a tea light holder which I've coloured and decorated using supplies from 13arts.

Some details:

Using papers from the "All Is Love" collection and some 13arts paper flowers.

The interior of the tea light holder.

Using 13arts paints and mists to create a burnished copper look.

The color bleeding technique which I used to alter the paper rose.

Here's a start to finish video tutorial to show you how I've put this project together. Sit back and enjoy the video, and remember to drop by the 13arts blog for more inspiration from the rest of the fabulous DT!

Until then,

Close to My Heart for Marion Smith Designs

Good day lovely friends!

I have for you today, a layout I created with the Nirvana collection by Marion Smith Designs. I just love the teals and the golds and browns in the collection and together, they make such a rustic and shabby combination.

I did lots of layering with different papers from the collection for my photo mat, plus lots of stamping and playing around with Ayeeda liquid medium, mists, gold paint and also my new toy the Luminarte Silk Acrylics.

Some close ups:

Stamping little hearts with one of the MSD stamps and coloring it with a mixture of Silks and Ayeeda liquid medium. The liquid medium is now my favourite go-to other than clear gesso. It gives so much body and fluidity to any paint or pigment and I absolutely have to use it for everything I paint with now! The flowers I fussy cut out were also covered with a layer of gold glaze, and the resin flower (also from MSD) was painted with Ayeeda Gold Pearl paint.

Layered amongst the Nirvana papers are also some chipboards from Blue Fern Studios. I am in love with the effect I've created here and I will be showing you how to create this super grungy look in a video tutorial soon.

You would have noticed little gold arrows everywhere? These are from MSD's Junque and Gems embellishment lines and these little arrows are perfect for creating movement, and directing the focus onto your photos or your clusters. You can also see n the background I've used MSD stamps all over.

That's all I have for you today. Thank you for dropping by and remember to check out the rest of the DT's fabulous work on the MSD blog.

Until then,
happy scrapping!

Prima BAP September

Hello people!

Sneaking in mid-week with my entry for this month's Prima BAP. The sketch is designed by one of my very talented team-mates on Blue Fern Studios, and she's none other than the fabulous Keren Tamir.

Here is the sketch she created...

And my take on it:

I used the new Epiphany collection from Prima (my favourite till date) for the background and layering papers, as well as the bird cage stamps from that collection. Just love the subtle tones of gold, peach and teal in these papers and I've matched my paints and flowers with this palette. This is one of the very rare photo of me and my eldest (when there were just 3 of us) on his first holiday trip to Taiwan. Hubby snapped a photo of us and it was the boy's first time feeding ducks at one of the tourist spots.

Some close ups:

I stamped the bird cages on one of the patterned papers and fussy cut them out for more dimension. I also used the wire trim to create a frame tucked between my paper layers and added some crystals on it. If you remember, Blue Fern Studios has a chipboard design called "Beaded Strings" and that was the effect I wanted to re-create here. The flowers, wooden frame, resin feather and wire trim were brushed with gesso, and highlighted with either Shimmerz Inklings or Silk Acrylics. There's also a real feather which we picked up from our recent trip to the Bird Park and I tucked it in behind the flowers.

Some flowery fun! I've layered the roses and flatter paper flowers and painted them over with Inklingz and Silks. Same goes for the bird cage piece and the wood title. Again, me being me (unable to follow rules), I've moved the title over to underneath the photo. For my background, I've done some random stamping and also a little bit of texture paste over the Bubbles stencil from Prima.

Another bird cage which I had stamped and cut out, plus a wood piece which I've painted over with some Silks. To make the Silks more fluid, I used 13@rts' liquid medium (I call it Magic Medium). It gives additional body to the Silks without diluting the intensity of the color. LOVE my Magic Medium!

The other cluster. I had so much fun altering the white flower with Inklingz and bleeding the color for an ombre effect. There's also a doily which I die cut out from one of the Prima metal dies and you can also find pieces of this tucked in all over the layout. The Elemental metal flowers were painted over with Silks and I added some crystals just to finish up the layout.

So that's all I have to share today. Thanks so much for dropping by!

Mini Canvas for OTRS

Hello crafty folks!

The weekend is here and I have a fun project for you today that you can try out over the weekend.
This is a mini-canvas with a configuration box and I've used lots of 13arts goodies to alter them. Below is a step by step photo tutorial that I've put together for you.

Step 1:

Prime your canvas and configuration box with gesso. I've used 13arts' acrylic primer for this, and the configuration box used to hold some of the Prima resins in my stash.

Step 2:

Using Ayeeda Paints in Matte Caramel and Matte Peach, dry brush the exterior of the box and layer the darker colour over the lighter one. There is no need for full coverage here and allow some of the gesso to peek through for a more rustic look.

Step 3:

I forgot to snap a photo of the mists I used, but they are Ayeeda Chalks in Pastel Green and Turquoise. Water down the mists to get the desired shade. Following that, I used 13arts acrylic modeling paste over one of their stencils and used it to create a grid pattern.

Step 4:

With Ayeeda Paint in Matte Pink, apply over a stencil randomly.
Water down the paint if you like.

Step 5:

Some random stamping with black archival ink.

Step 6:

One of my favourite things: altering chipboard! I'm using the Wild Flourish Bundle and a piece from the Vintage Lock set and altered them using the paints and mediums shown.

Step 7:

Assembling the pieces. I'm using some chipboard stickers and flowers, as well as resins from Prima to fill out the cubby holes in the box.

And voila, the project is done!

Some closeups:

A bow covered with Pearl Gold from Ayeeda Paint.

Thanks for joining me today, and have a crafty weekend!
