Celebrate with 13@rts

Hello friends!

Hope your 2016 has been great so far. Mine is just filled to the brim with the kids and their activities and catching some me-time is a miracle! And I was so glad to find time to make a card for a special someone.

I've used paper from Aida's Secret Letters collection and based my mono-chrome palette entirely on the gorgeous mauve and pinks.

Some close-ups:

Bits of the background here. I first used the lovely new doily stencil (love it!!) and painted over with Dirty Pink in the chalk and pastel mists, followed by splatters of pastel Berry mist and black Splash! ink. For my title, I painted the words with white Splash! ink.

When all that is dried, I went over with the "Always the Music" stencil. This is another favourite of mine because of the details in the notes and script and I love to use this to add more texture to my background. Lastly is a script stamp with some embossing powder for a darker color tone to accent the whole card.

I have a doily die cut from white cardstock and gave it a slightly different treatment. First I splattered Berry mist over it without gesso and let the color sink in. It leaves a intense but even splash of color and I applied gesso over. Finally it's Berry mist again but the effects are greatly different. The spots of mist dries with a darker edge around a much lighter pool of the mist. With this, I was able to make my doily look more interesting with a dyed and dried look. The chipboard was treated as usual with painting Dirty Pink chalk mist randomly.

And this is all I have for today. Have a great weekend ahead!

Dream with Made With Love

Hello friends, and happy Monday!

I'm looking through my Facebook feed and seeing so many lovely pictures of young ones and their first day of school. My own boys have also progressed; A is in his last year of pre-school and I is entering a new phase where he will have to start taking his homework more seriously. Not looking forward to that as he is such a free-spirited boy!

And to spruce up this Monday, I have a lovely mixed media canvas to share with you and to give you some idea of how you can add details to scrapping those FDoS photos.

The canvas itself is already a piece of art and from TIm Holtz's District Market series. I added several layers of mediums on it, but deliberately cleaned off some parts to show the grungy clock designs on it. The first layer was priming with gesso, followed by Distress Paint in Sage - again I allowed some parts of the burlap to show through. Then it was Distress Paint in Mustard Seed and painting over with Tattered Angel's chalk mist in Cornflower Blue and Glimmer Mist in Terra Cotta. To create texture, I spread texture paste over a stencil and also used some dry-wall tape and various types of laces.

Some close-ups:

A huge bouquet of flowers which I brushed with gesso and painted with Terra Cotta glimmer mist. The wooden flourish was heat embossed with Antique Linen distress powder.

A wooden bird, resin frame and resist canvas for painting from Prima Marketing which I brushed with Glimmer Glam Golden Goddess.

My title, which unfortunately is not too obvious here - "dream" on a resist canvas butterfly piece from Prima Marketing. The metal key is from Maya Road and I re-purposed a bottle cap from one of the soft drinks we had.

Some additional details - I cut out the pocket from my favourite pair of jeans which I can't fit into anymore. It's a Levis which I bought for $14 from San Francisco - kids size when I was 28! Layering laces and some punched border, as well as mistable frame from Pink Paislee.

More gorgeous details here of a metal keyhole (G45), a wooden floral stem (Kaisercraft) and manila tags which I had stamped and glazed over.

That's all I have for today. Thanks for dropping by!

First post of 2016 with Blue Fern Studios!

Hello friends, and a very happy New Year to you and your loved ones!

I'm excited about what this year has in store for me and with all the possibilities of great things happening. But most importantly, I'm more than happy to be back on this amazing team with the most gorgeous products, so let me share my first creations for Blue Fern Studios for 2016.

My first share is a layout of my three babies. It's almost impossible to get them into one photo, let alone make them smile all at the same time so everyone here is looking in different directions. I've used Papillon as my background paper and instead of the usual white gesso and modeling paste combination, I went for a totally different look with a darker palette to match the mood of these papers.

For the background, I spread black gesso over a flower stencil to match the nature motifs in this collection. For contrast, I used white gesso for my script and stem stamps. I also used a lot of Imagine Ink embossing powders - Mystic Plum with Halftone stamps, Cotton Candy with Textured Circle stamp. For the latter, I sprinkled Sage embossing powder while the first pink layer was still melted to obtain a double embossed effect.

Some close-ups:

For Framington Medley chipboard, I used Garnet embossing powder, followed by a second layer with Mystic Plum, and then a third layer with Pearl. Each layer of embossing powder is heated and wet before adding the next layer. For the Willow Flower chipboard, I painted with gelato followed by some dimensional paint in a similar purple shade.

Some of the background details and the papers from the collection I used for layering.

My title from "Calling Cards". It is a perfect moment indeed to get all three of them willing for a photo. I'm still waiting for a "More Perfect" moment when all three are smiling at the camera.

More background details.

My second share is this "Timeless" winter page. Again, you see how versatile this collection is and I can use it flawlessly for a seasonal layout. I had chosen a photo of a beautiful winter landscape and selected the papers to match the neutral tones. The photo itself conveyed a sense of all time stopping as the snow blankets everything, making it Timeless.

More closeups:

Part of the Snowflake Medley and Mystic Branch, along with a lot of other details.

Flowers layered upon a die cut snowflake.

A very inconspicuous title taken from the info strip, so as not to disrupt the mood the whole page creates.

Some more background details.

Layering the amazing papers from the collection.

And here is the start-to-finish video of how I put this page together.

Before you go, do head over to the Blue Fern blog and check out this month's new sketch by Michelle!

There are loads of inspiration by the amazing DT and lovely prizes to be won.

That's all I have for today. Have a great week ahead!
