Sneaks.....

Hello friends!

It's raining here and all gloomy but I've got some really wonderful stuff to share with you! Are you ready for some prettiness??

This is the latest collection from Blue Fern Studios and what a beautiful collection by Michele Singh! The colours are so suitable for both mixed media and shabby chic cards, layouts... whatever you can think of. I'm really excited about playing them, and I hope you are too!

Best of Times - BFS Reveal Part 2

Merry Monday!

I've just had a pretty tough weekend managing the boys on my own as the husband has gone on one of his teaching trips. Scuba-diving teaching that is. And it makes me absolutely jealous because my own last dive trip was almost 3 years ago in the Maldives, just before we conceived No. 2. Anyhow, I'm still glad to be alive, sharing with you another layout I created for Blue Fern Studios.

I'm part of a local scrappers community and one of the topics that came up was using watercolour paper vs cardstock. Needless to say, that inspired me to do away with patterned paper and cardstock and pull out my (very) dusty watercolour pad for some fun. And instead of my usual spraying, every color was applied on either with a brush, palette knife, stencil or stamp. The idea for the colours came from a piece of kitchen towel that I had used to blot off excess sprays from a previous project. I find it so amazing sometimes, how the smallest things can give us such wonderful inspiration.

I've used the Best of Times frame from the Memory Frame Set (BFS) and just brushed distress ink over and doubled it up as a title. The brown made it stand out from a sea of brights and pastels.

Shabby brick bits! One of my favourite BFS chippies and these are the last ones I have currently in my stash. My package of Shimmerz goodies came just in time and I had fun plastering on THREE different Texturez - Tidy Widy (thanks to a teamie's recommendation), Crushed Coral and Patina. Love the grainy texture and how beautifully they matched my colours.

Berry stems chippies which I find so useful for tucking into layers and filling up space. I've left the stems bare and put some Tutti Frutti Dazzlers on the berries.

So that's it for today. I'll be back soon with more crafty adventures!

she wanted to fly - BFS Reveal 1

Happy weekend friends!

Thanks for dropping by the blog today. I'm sharing a layout I created for Blue Fern Studios, using their fantastic chippie and some papers from 7 Dots Studio's Cold Country. The papers were left over from the Flying Unicorn's April KOM which I had previously used for my DT work for Once Upon a Sketch.

I liked a painting I saw in a cafe located on the ground floor of my office building. I won't go into the quality of the food (it's terrible, by the way) but the painting was quite something - with only two colours; aqua and pink. I told myself I had to make something with those colours. So I snapped a picture and tried to match the colours with my stash of paints and sprays. Times like this, it pays to be a hoarder :D

I added yellow subsequently because I like the punch it gives and when blended with the aqua, it gave a nice green. And after all the splashing about, I realised this belongs in an art journal. Maybe it is time to get started on one!

The Page Chains from BFS which I did simple heat embossing.

I'm not a rub-on person, but the sayings that came along in the FU kit were too fun to resist. There's also a piece of Manor Hinge chippie which I embossed with two different colored EPs for a burnished metal look.

Wing chippie - the main inspiration. I used a peacock feather stencil on this one with some texture paste and painted over with both pink and purple Shimmerz. Then I added glitter to the edges. Silly me finished off with my heat gun, thinking that it's EP...

A lovely metal bird that came in the FU kit. Love it.

Love how the pink and aqua blended to give a beautiful violet and lilac.

That's all for today. I'll be back in a couple of days with Part 2 of my BFS reveal.
Happy crafting!

Going teal and aqua!

Hello friends!

What a crazy Easter weekend! I'm back today to finish up the second part of my share for Green Tara.

This is one of my favourite photos of youngest. Isn't he adorable? I think hubby and me are really very blessed to have him and his brother; both of them have been such joy to us.

Some close-ups:

Double-stamping with my Technique Tuesday word stamps - first in aqua mist then with black ink.

The beautiful Damask flower paire with a tutu flower and apple blossom. There's also a berry stem chippie from Blue Fern Studios which I find just perfect for accenting floral clusters.

A sweet little bicycle chippie and title from BFS. I misted the title words with Lindy's Stamp Gang's Bachelor Button Blue and heat embossed the bicycle with two different coloured EPs to give a tarnished metal look.

And that's all I have for now. Until then, happy crafting!

My first official OTRS post!

Happy Good Friday friends!

It's the start of the long weekend for many of us, so if you've some time on your hand why come by Off The Rails Scrapbooking and check out the challenge for this round?

The rule is to use the following sketch and colour palette:

Lovely colours for Spring aren't they!
And here's my take on it:

Some close ups:

Using a title chippie from Blue Fern Studios. Beneath is the cherry blossom stencil from The Crafters' Workshop.  I applied texture paste over and painted on the flowers and leaves using paints from 13@rts.

Love this little bicycle which I altered by mixing two different colored EPs from Lindy's Stamp Gang.

The Shabby brick bits from BFS, which I left bare as the earthy colour complemented the floral colours.

The prize for this challenge is a $15 voucher from Flourish with a Bling, so remember to visit the blog for inspiration from the rest of the DT and take part!

I shall be seeing you very soon!

You Shine - for Green Tara

Hello friends, so glad to be back to share a layout I did for Green Tara
I missed a post in March because the boys and myself were sick, so there was plenty of catching up to do.

I used gorgeous papers from Blue Fern Gardens for this. The rose lattice and envelope motifs were fussy cut out and used for layering. I used plenty of Lindy's Stamp Gang mists and Shimmerz Dazzlers in the background.

A white lace from Green Tara and the title chippie from Blue Fern Studios. For the butterfly metal piece, I brushed on some gold paint from 13@rts.

Some exciting news!

Good day friends!
How are you this weekend?

Well, I'm just bursting to the seams with excitement and here's why:

I'll be teaching my first overseas class in Perth! It will be held on 10 May (Saturday) and I'll be teaching some basic mixed media techniques, and using these techniques to create a reverse canvas for displaying those lovely photos. So if you're in the neighbourhood, drop by and join me for a fun-filled afternoon!

And the second exciting thing is that I've finally set up a Facebook page for my crafts and classes. It's been a long time coming and I now have my blog, the FB page and the YouTube channel all re-named as the Art Medium. This will be where I'll be advertising classes, updating news and happening so make sure you go check it out here! I was so overwhelmed by the response from friends and the good news is, there will be a little giveaway soon. So make sure you check out the FB page to see how you can win yourself a little something.

That's all I have for now, I'll be back in a couple of days with some new work to show you. Until then, happy crafting!

OUAS April Challenge

Hello friends!!

I know this is a little early as my sketches for Once Upon A Sketch are usually revealed mid-month. There are too many things going on so I better get this out first.

So, so, so lucky that I got to work with the April Kit of the Month from The Flying Unicorn as a cross feature between FU and OUAS. Here's what can be found in the main kit:

Featured is one of my favourite brands 7 Dots Studios and the amazing Cold Country Collection designed by Finnbair.

Here's the April sketch:

Journalling Theme: "An event that changed my life..."

You are free to interpret our theme ANY WAY you like. It is for your inspiration and this theme word DOES NOT need to be part of your title or journalling. But please make sure your layout is based on the sketch below and includes journalling (hidden journalling is fine). Acceptable journalling is MORE than just a sentence, or generic writing such as date/place etc. It needs to be present and at least 3 lines long. Remember, hidden journalling (under a photo/tag or behind your page) is perfectly fine but please DO let us know in your post where your journalling is!

Here's my take on it:

I know it sounds a little cheesy, especially to friends of different faiths (or those without any). Initially I had wanted to scrap about my marriage, my kids, and other specific events which I felt had a tremendous effect on me. But after some deep thinking, I realise that none has as much impact on my life as the day that my Lord and Saviour gave His life for me. Of course I had to accept Him first, but everything that I am and that I have today, it was because of what He has done for me. It was also because of His sacrifice that I found a wonderful and God-fearing man in my husband, and now blessed with two beautiful and sweet children. My life though not very glamorous and neither are we wealthy, is filled with laughter and good times with family and friends. More importantly, I am secure and safe in His unconditional love, and perfect love casts out all fears. So I chose to scrap about how in that wonderful sacrifice, He has helped me overcome, with the promise of eternal life. And I pray that the people around me will come to know the same promise as well. What a wonderful thing to share for Good Friday in April!

Enough with the preaching! Some close-ups:

I've made quite a few mistakes during this layout, some of which include forgetting the stencils, and even forgetting there was a pack of flowers in the kit! And you get to see my boo-boos in the start-to-finish video I've put together for you.

I should have some VERY exciting news that just make me want to jump out of my pants to share with you soon. Stay tuned!

until then,
love from Jelissa

BFS April Sketch

Hello friends, happy April!
A quarter of the year has passed and so many exciting things have been taking place. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to the rest of the year and what God has in store.

Before I get ahead of myself, 1st day of the month also means sketch challenge reveal day over at Blue Fern Studios. This time, Michelle has yet another lovely sketch for you to play along with and the prize will be an awesome pack of BFS chippies, to go to a randomly drawn winner.

Here is the sketch:

And I've rotated mine sideways:

I've used the gorgeous Blue Fern Garden collection for this layout, along with some beautiful chipboards from BFS.

Some close-ups:

A sentiment I cut out from "Calling Cards".

One of the Charmed Page Dangles chippie, which I used as my title.

The other half of the dangle.

And here's a start-to-finish video tut I've put together for this. My camera battery ran out towards the end so unfortunately the part where I finished the embellishments got cut off. But I hope you will enjoy the background techniques and find the way I dressed up the chipboards useful! I'll be back (hopefully) in a couple of days with another new project. See you then!
