Together is a wonderful place to be

Hey there!

June has been quite an easy month so far and I've managed to find the time to create a layout for the Scrap Around the world June challenge. Now, doing the layout took me quite awhile, over two long nights but I must say I'm quite happy with the result!

Here's the sketch and mood board (I love this thing, it's so artsy!):

I was inspired by the black and white right down in the left hand corner and that distressed look in the picture next to it. And of course the wonderful sketch by my PaperHaus magazine teamie Julianne is just begging for creating something pretty with!

And this is what I came up with:

This is Finnabair's Sunrise and Sunset collection and I love how she mixes oranges and pinks and purples together, and you can see how I exploited that combination.

Some close-ups:

Layering trims, a die-cut fence coated with distress ink and crackle medium, flowers and patterned paper

More layering with chipboards, metal bits, canvas, ruffles and even fruit packaging!

Recycling those sentiments on the Prima packaging. The background was done with gel medium resist, layered on top with textured paste on chevron stencil and blending gelatos with water, and followed by some distress ink on another stencil.

I wonder what happened to that button?? But it does have a very interesting texture, don't you think? The film strip was also inspired by the mood board, as was the b/w photo of my boys. Silhouetting is currently my favourite thing to do :D

Oh, and I wonder if anyone noticed anything something totally "wrong" with this layout? LOL, I'll give you a clue, the devil is in the background *wink*

I'll be doing something similar again for the PaperHaus DT blog some time in July. Keep a lookout for it!

My Scrap for Help entry

Hello!

I am consciously aware that I have been lagging behind so terribly in my blog posts! Work is getting crazy and those days of coming home late have been more often than I would like them to be - it's hard to find a balance between investing time in what brings home the bacon and time in the people who really matter!

Which sort of explains why I'm using an old layout I did for the PaperHaus magazine for a Scrap for Help challenge. Did I mention that this is my first DT experience with PaperHaus and it has been a whale of a time so far! If not for the overwhelming commitments to other stuff, I suspect I would have applied for a lot more DT calls than the husband will be happy with :p

Anyway, back to my entry. It's a tutorial I did back in December, you can find the details here. Looking back at the photos, I really kind of miss the fun and the snow we had there in Korea. Now eldest is playing pretend that it's always freezing and asking to go to a "cold country" where he can see snow and walruses (???). I doubt I will bring him to the Arctic or Antartica, but a trip to visit Santa Claus and the aurora borealis might be in order sometime in the future I hope.

And here's the entry for the challenge:

We're supposed to use something woody (not the cowboy from Toy Story) or twigs. I happened to picked up some from the planted areas near our block and used them for this layout. It's always nice to have a little piece of nature around.

Some little details:

Well, I'm just going to sign off now. It's Saturday night and we've got a movie going on. See you soon!

Our family loves going to the park as the boys get plenty of fresh air and exercise. My eldest is a big fan of bubbles (which kid doesn't?) and in this photo, I just love that faraway look that youngest has with all those bubbles around him. Makes me feel like kicking back in a hammock and enjoying the breeze as well!

If you want to know how I created this piece, remember to check out the PaperHaus blog this June! I'll be doing a step-by-step tutorial with plenty of pictures and details. Get ready for a messy good time!
