Scrap Around the World - My Family

Hello everyone!

It's been such a productive time! I'm back in *again* to share my entry on SATW's epic anniversary challenge! They are celebrating their first birthday and there's a huge party going on over there. SATW has a special place in my heart as the very first challenge blog I have ever taken part in and also won prizes for, so BIG CONGRATS to Helen for running such a great show, and also to her wonderful DT for coming up with such beautiful mood boards each month. Despite May being such a busy month, I told myself I must play along just to show my support and gratitude for a bunch of people that have been so kind to me.

And my take on it:

I took my colours largely from the pictures with the balloons. The background was created with gelatos, lots of random stamping and of course my favourite splattering with some gorgeous 13 @rts Ayeeda Matte Paints - don't they look like confetti? I picked the papers as well with matching polka dots and stripes as shown in the picture with the parcels. I also chose to scrap about my family as they are the ones who got me started scrapping in the first place, and is what I am most thankful for everyday.

Not sure if you can see it here, but I've got a little paper bow tie under my title sticker, inspired by the picture of the pair of shoes. Together with a few other elements, I outlined it with texture paste and sprinkled gold glitter, just like how it was with the balloons. 

My floral cluster. What will I do without flowers?  Tucked beneath is a cute piece of Mini Ring Things chipboard from Blue Fern Studios which I happily patted on some Shimmerz Dazzlerz. I also outlined my strips of layering paper with different Texturez like icing on a cake, which is what parties are all about right?

Blue Fern Studios DT - Memories

Hello good people!

As promised, I'm back in to share Part 2 of my Blue Fern Studios DT reveal. This is created with the lovely Blue Fern Garden collection, using one of my favourite papers "Parlour". I love the blue/green combination and it matches my photo perfectly.

We were out to Rockingham for the day as it was our first sunny day of the trip. For lunch, we decided to do a little picnic thing and hubby picked a little patch of grass sprinkled with sweet little yellow daisies, with a gorgeous view of Penguin Island and the Indian Ocean. Of course, eldest kept asking if the Malaysian Airlines plane is out there and if he could go look for it, and the seagulls kept stalking us and eyeing our food. But it's really our first time doing this and gosh, it was so much fun!

Love the wildflower flourish bundle chipboard. I coloured it yellow using Lindy's Stamp Gang "Yellow Rose of Texas", followed by patting on some gel medium mixed with LSG's Color Shot in "Icy Primrose Yellow" to match the little daisies in the photo.

Using a word from "Calling Card" paper (Blue Fern Garden) as my title. These cut-out elements are so useful!

Checkered bits and graduated circle chipboards. Love these to bits. 

My floral cluster, dusted with some Ferro special paste in gold by Creative Imaginations. I mentioned that adding gold is a recent favourite of mine and I found this special paste while in Perth. It has a sandy texture with quite a nice shimmer to it.

So here's the video tut I've put together. As usual, silly me didn't realise that the camera stopped recording halfway when it came to the part where I was altering the wildflower flourish bundle chipboard. Still, I hope you enjoy the techniques in the video and find them useful.

Blue Fern Studios DT - Blessings

Hello friends!

Am glad to be back in to share a layout I created for Blue Fern Studios. I revisited my old Prima collections and pulled out the Rondelle for this page. But it doesn't really matter what brand of patterned paper I use because BFS chipboards are so versatile, they suit any style of scrapbooking. 

You hardly see me scrap pictures of myself or with my kids because I just don't have that many. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to having my picture taken so unless I know the person is able to capture what I already visualise in my head, I rather just pass. Also, I look terrible in photos so you can imagine, selfies are definitely out. Even those with my handsome hubby. But he did such a wonderful job with this photo of me and the boys, so this one is really a keeper.

Love pinks and yellows, and how they mix to make a sweet orange. Not exactly a boy's sort of colours but who says you have to follow the rules?

I used the "Blessings" word from "Spiritually Speaking" word set as my title and kept it very simple with a coat of gesso, some dabbing with grey chalk ink and distressed the edges with some black ink.

And layered in between my patterned papers are pieces from "Mini Ring Things". I covered with a coat of gesso and painted with Lindy's Stamp Gang's Flat Fabios to match my background. This was followed by patting on Shimmerz Dazzlers in Lemon Drop and Dreamsicle.

My floral cluster using Prima flowers, and layering bits of knick-knacks here and there from Kaisercraft and Heidi Swapp. 

A little wooden frame from the Optimist collection and more floral goodies! If you can see the background, I sprinkled some gold glitter on my texture paste. Fun, that is!

OTRS DT - the road less travelled

Hello friends!

So glad to be back to share some new creations. It was a wonderful 2 weeks in Perth with friends, taking in the cool winter air and wonderful sunshine. I brought back lots of pictures and memories, all of which are waiting to be scrapped.

Here is a layout I created for Off the Rails Scrapbooking. It's a photo we took on the first sunny day of our trip. The first few days were pretty rough, with 3 of the 4 kids taken ill and the poor parents were so worn out from caring from them. We visited a vineyard and roamed the grounds, this was a photo of a road that runs parallel to the vineyard and is a huge estate put up for sale. Love the feeling of adventure it suggests!

I used mostly the bits and pieces from Kaisercraft - part of my haul from Perth when a friend took me shopping. A cute picket fence from Blue Fern Studios which I altered with different texture pastes.

Love flowers! I actually used blooms from three different manufacturers in this layout, and that's a first! Added a touch of gold paint from 13@rts to the edges to resemble the golden sunlight dancing off the flowers. Gold is fast becoming a favourite addition to my recent work because it adds so much pop.

BFS May sketch

Hello friends, we are officially in the month of May!!!

I'm sooo excited because we are headed for a family holiday in Perth in just 6 days. Looking forward to spending time with our friends there, lots of wine and dine, fun on a farm for the kids and of course, LOTS of pictures for scrapping!

As always, first day of month is Blue Fern Studios sketch time. Michelle Singh has outdone herself again with this beautiful sketch.

And this is my take on it, using the Signature paper from Blue Fern Garden:

Those gears and bits are from BFS. I've coated them with layers of Texturez from Shimmerz. For the flowers, I dabbed the edges with my latest favourite gold paint from 13@rts. For this layout, I've challenged myself not to go spraying everywhere but do a really subtle background using just Distress Stains. Unfortunately I caved in towards the end and used one of Ayeeda's mists (in Navy Blue) from 13@rts as well and made little splatters everywhere. Well, absolutely love the punch it added!

The Circle Group Panel chipboard. Perfect for background and layering. After painting them over with distress inks, I've plastered Shimmerz Texturez in Patina and Tidy Widy all over, and added some glass beads on top of little smears of Spun Sugar. You can also see the stitched circle stamps from Prima. I had looked for them everywhere but couldn't find them. Only to flip through a stack of stitched SQUARE stamps and see them. Note to self; perseverance pays off and never judge a stack of stamps by the first piece. Or maybe even the next ten pieces :p

A chippie tag, also from BFS. This was brushed with gesso then stamped in grey and black.
